Background Information

CHALEUR BAY WATERSHEDS was first developed August 28th, 2000.  It is a non-profit organization sponsored by the New Brunswick Environmental Trust Fund. Chaleur Bay Watersheds mission is « Working together to preserve the health of our watersheds ». 

The groups main office is based out of Nigadoo, New Brunswick but the coverage of the organization spans 5 different municipalities: Belledune, Beresford, Nigadoo, Petit-Rocher and Pointe-Verte. 

Encompassing some of the most beautiful rivers and streams in the province, the watersheds of the Chaleur Bay area under study, cover an area of approximately 980 km2. Chaleur Bay Watersheds is interested in the sustainable management and protection of the watersheds of Armstrong Brook, Belledune River, Elmtree River, Jacquet River, Little Elmtree River, Millstream River and Nigadoo River.  The Jacquet River in particular is one of the most pristine rivers in New Brunswick and has the highest returns of Atlantic Salmon in all the Atlantic Provinces.
